Merry Christmas
I began this last year because I wanted to share with you some of my personal favorite Christmas music. Have a few of your own that you’d like to share with the rest of the world? This is your chance. Simply submit your suggestion along with a link to where the song can be found and I’ll do my best to add it to the list along with your name as the one who made the suggestion.
And now, without further ado, on with the show! Merry Christmas!
Being older than dirt, I’ve heard my share of Christmas songs and I think over the years we come to the decision that we have our favorite Christmas songs baked in and (outside of a few exceptions,) that’s enough. The following— in no particular order, are a few of my favorites and those who performed them along with a little commentary before each clip. Some I’m sure you’ve heard— including some you may not have. Enjoy.
If you’ve read the fantastic book Coal: A Christmas Story, the following song is mentioned as the song signaling Jazz it was officially Christmas and time to come out of his room and open gifts. This is the song he couldn’t wait to hear. If you have kids, you may want to make this a Christmas tradition also.
From the same album which believe it or not you can still purchase is their song ‘Twas the Night before Christmas. Again, for kids— one of the best.
There are so many great songs on this album, I am compelled to feature two more. First— Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.
Second— Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer
This next clip I found simply by happenstance. If you haven’t seen this and a few more like these below then you’re in for a treat.

Another Great video. Don’t worry— Army and Navy coming up.
It wasn’t until this year that I came across these four gentlemen in the Navy Band. They did a couple of Christmas tunes I found not only hilarious but their harmony was perfect. Here’s the first.
Throughout our lives, there was always that one year where Christmas felt a little melancholy. Don’t ask me why, but the song below not only defined that melancholy for me personally, but helped me deal with it. Or at least made me feel I would move past it. If I were asked whether it was the music or the lyrics, I’d have to say it was mainly the music. Great song by John Denver to listen to with a glass of wine sitting next to a fireplace. Alone or with a loved one.
This is a work in progress.
Come back often to see new additions.
